IMPERIUM — Smart Energy IoT
An IoT system that monitors household electrical appliances in real time, helping consumers reduce electricity bills and adopt energy-saving practices.
Problem
Many Sri Lankan households and small businesses receive high electricity bills without understanding which appliances drive consumption. Manual monitoring is impractical, and existing meters provide only aggregate usage with no appliance-level breakdown or actionable guidance.
Approach
Designed a hardware-software IoT solution using Arduino microcontrollers and sensors to measure appliance-level power consumption. A web dashboard presented real-time usage data, cost projections, and energy-saving recommendations. The system bridged embedded C++ firmware with a browser-based monitoring interface.
Context
IMPERIUM is an Internet of Things project designed to give electricity consumers real-time, accurate data about their appliance usage. The system guides users toward lower bills and better energy habits — targeting households with bills above Rs. 5,000, small-to-medium enterprises, and busy consumers who lack time to manually track usage.
